When we first saw the new laptop brief from Mission Workshop, we knew we’d found a travel necessity. Generously padded, ingeniously compartmentalized and built to seamlessly pair with a number of Mission Workshop’s larger travel bags, it’s everything we’ve come to expect from the SF gear maker. If there’s better way to transport a laptop — keeping it safe from drops, spills and children with sticky fingers — we’re yet to find it.

Thus inspired, we reached out to the guy who built the thing: Mission Workshop co-owner and creative director Jeff Roberts, for his nine travel essentials. We’ve got something to eat, something to read, and the best parts of your new, travel-ready wardrobe.

1. MacBook Pro
It’s called the laptop brief, after all.

2. Design tools
“A loupe, tailor’s tape, chalk pencil, ligne caliper. With these basic tools, an iPhone camera and Adobe Illustrator, pretty much anywhere in the world can be a bag or apparel design workshop.

3. Scarpa Force climbing shoes and chalk bag
For lunchtime or after-work bouldering. These days there are established park boulder problems or a climbing gym within walking distance in most cities. I don’t like painful feet, and Scarpa Force are the most comfortable all-around shoes there are.

4. Interval Jacket
Ultralight wind- and water-resistant layer that doesn’t take up any room in the pack.

5. Textile View magazine
One of the most beautifully designed magazines in the world, with loads of inspiring prose and imagery.

6. Bose QuietComfort 35 Headphones
Dowdy — but oh, that sound quality.

7. free2be Dark Chocolate Sun Cups
Only six grams of sugar per cup!

8. Vuarnet Model 02
With Nightlynx yellow lenses (makes the world a happy place)

9. Pisen portable charger
You never know when you won’t be able to find an outlet.
