Cruising the ‘net last week may have led you to an unlikely image of a tent dangling from an NYC fire escape, the accompanying post purporting to offer a solution to city dwellers who Airbnb their apartments so often they have nowhere else to stay.

The image and post may be a spoof, but the tent is real. And we’ll take two, please and thank you.

With a lightweight frame made from anodized 6061 T6 aluminum, the Cliff Cabana Double Portaledge from Black Diamond is a nylon tent that can hang from ledges, cliffs, trees and yes, even fire escapes thanks to the “world’s strongest, most reliable single-point suspension.”

Strong enough to hold a maximum load of 450 pounds, the 23-pound tent uses a six-point buckle system for easy leveling and is a breeze to assemble and take down.

Although it ain’t cheap ($7,000) the tent is completely safe when used correctly and is a great way to spend a night in the vertical world, or as the company puts it, “way off the deck.”
