At 104-years-old, Ray Chavez is the oldest known survivor of the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.

“I can’t forget it. I never will,” he said of the attack in an interview with NBC. “I got very emotional that day. There were so many, many innocent people that were lost.”

While he has returned many times since to honor the fallen, this year is a notable one, as it marked the 75th anniversary of the tragic affair.

And to prepare for the voyage, Chavez put on 20 pounds of muscle by working with a personal trainer. “I tell my clients all the time, when they say, ‘I’m too old to do this or that,’ I say, ‘No, look at Ray, that excuse doesn’t fly anymore,’” he said.

Next up for Ray? He’s gunning to be around for the 80th anniversary — when he’ll be 109 years young. Ray says if he can walk, he’ll be there.

Hats are off to this righteous hero.
