From Jamie Lee Curtis and Halloween to Sigourney Weaver and Alien, almost any horror movie that’s worth its salt has a legit leading lady in a prominent role.
And, as it turns out, most horror movies that aren’t worth the film they’re printed on tend to have a female character in a starring role too.
That being the case, we thought it’d be fun to take a look back at five former scream queens who’ve had major roles in horror films that span the gauntlet from scary good to scary bad in honor of Friday the 13th.
Be warned, not all of these movies are going to be worth watching except if they’re on cable and the batteries in your remote are dead as doornails. Still, you could do worse than some of ’em on a Saturday afternoon.
Regardless, all of these ladies might be worthy of an Instagram follow on a dark and stormy Friday night—especially the 13th.
Megan Fox
Movie: Jennifer’s Body
Worth watching? It’s somewhat of a coin flip, but if you think the idea of a high schooler becoming possessed by a demon that’s only satisfied by eating teenage boys, literally, go for it. Partially a dark comedy, Jennifer’s Body actually sounds worse than it is, but it’s still not great. But, it’s a good chance to see Fox outside of a Transformers film.

Movie: Piranha 3D
Worth watching? Picture what a movie called Piranha 3D should be like and you’ve got a pretty good idea of what this one is. Is it a fun movie? Generally. Is it an entertaining movie? Sure. Is it a good movie? Lord, no. But, it also doesn’t really pretend to be which is what makes it watchable.
Jessica Biel
Movie: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Worth watching? If the original is available, you’ll probably want to go with that. However, this remake has plenty of violence, gore, and foul language to give you your fix if that’s exactly what you’re looking for. If nothing else, give this movie some credit for introducing Biel to a larger audience. We do.
Anna Hutchison
Movie: The Cabin in the Woods
Worth watching? Maybe not for a scare, but definitely for a laugh. This sendup of a number of classic horror tropes knows where it’s going, even if the viewer might not. This also isn’t one you’re going to want to switch off halfway through as the one-of-a-kind ending is well worth the wait.

Movie: The Bad Batch
Worth watching? If you find a dystopian future where inmates of a particular kind of outdoor prison feed on each other scary, probably. Not a classic horror movie, The Bad Batch has some disturbing sequences and is quite gruesome at times, but there’s also a soft underside and, if you look at it right, even a love story. Avoid it, however, if missing limbs give you the creeps.
