Formula 1 cars are pretty damned fast. That much is true. But is one faster than a fighter jet preparing for takeoff? Red Bull wanted to find out, you know, just because.

So the extreme sports company set up an impromptu racing strip at Austria’s Salzburg Airport, pitting its 2011 RB7 car driven by Patrick Friesacher against a Dassault-Breguet/Dornier Alpha jet piloted by Philipp Haidbauer. What happened next?
