The Porsche brand name has come to evoke the speedier side of the fine life—and by extension, the 911 is it’s fully-charged chariot.

The famed model debuted as the 901 back in 1963 at the International Motor Show. Given the “911” moniker just a year later, the luxury speedster has been famously owned and operated by a who’s who of the luminaries—from Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tom Cruise to David Beckham. And, of course, Steve McQueen, who revved a version up in his ’71 classic, Le Mans.

Founder of the company Ferdinand “Ferry” Porsche once famously quipped that “The 911 is the only car that you can drive from an African safari to Le Mans, then to the theater and onto the streets of New York.”

Now, just this month, Porsche has rolled its one-millionth 911 off the production line at its Zuffenhausen, Germany, plant—a Carrera S, painted in Irish Green, featuring exclusive features that mirror the first one when it debuted in ’63.

Getting your hands on it is going to be pretty difficult, though; the automaker says it’s first giving No. 1,000,000 a world tour—as well as a spin around the Nürburgring—before backing it into the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart for good.
