That's a lot of people in one off-road-ready SUV

The new Land Rover Defender has received glowing reviews since its announcement. In their overview of the British SUV, Motor Trend offered a good sense of why so many people have been impressed. “The new, modern Defender goes about its mission with a different methodology than its predecessor, but maintains the legendary original’s go-anywhere, do-anything attitude excellently,” the review stated. This begs the question: where do you go from there?

If you’re Land Rover, the answer is clear: you add more room.

Autoblog reports that Land Rover recently confirmed that it will offer an option for a third row of seats before the end of 2022. The two-door edition of the Defender is known as the Defender 90, while its four-door counterpart is the Defender 110. This new edition will be the Defender 130.

As Autoblog’s Joe Lorio notes in his report of the news, the 110 offered an option for a third row of seats, but — he writes — “it’s small to the point of being nearly useless.”

The Defender 130 will use the same wheelbase as the 110, but it will also be 14 inches longer, and six inches longer than the Land Rover Discovery. A price for the 130 has not yet been announced, though it certainly seems like there’s endless demand for high-performance yet spacious SUVs.
