YOUR GOOD GUY TO KNOW
Ary Katz, Actor/Musician/Activist
M usician/Artist/Actor/Activist Katz is the consummate Los Angeles polymath. Boasting a recent Tyler Perry turn under his belt plus the politically charged single (and video) “STND+DLVR” with Vintage Trouble’s Ty Taylor and a forthcoming album, the kid is on a roll. Keep an eye out … won’t be long before you’re spotting his handsome mug everywhere.
Think of his band collar like a churched-up henley: same collarbone-bearing machismo up top, just with a little dress shirt swagger down low that allows for a slightly more refined kit. So tuck it, untuck it … live your life. Just know this: looks good slightly rumpled, looks even better with the sleeves rolled up, and should never, ever be worn with a suit.
MOST VALUABLE “I GOT A GUY” GUY?
“
“My barber Randall at Etiquette Barbers in DTLA. Small shop, single chair, always a decanter of single barrel sitting around. A+ barber banter is guaranteed, from our inebriated exploits to in-depth analysis of politics and policy. None of that rush to turn over the chair you feel in so many other shops. It’s taken me damn near a decade of barbershop hopping and jacked-up fades to find my ace — so long as Randall is in business, no one else is touching my dome.”

FAVORITE LA “CITY HACK?”
“
Parking in Loading Zones! Very few know this, but YELLOW CURB loading zones are only enforceable M-F 6 a.m.-6 p.m. And there’s usually at least one per block in major areas of commerce. So come nights and weekends, getcha some.

AS A PROFESSIONAL PERFORMER,
TIPS ON BEING A BETTER PUBLIC SPEAKER?
“
Breathe. Seriously, it’s one of the most basic functions of our physiology and grossly overlooked. Mindfulness of breath can literally produce magical results. And take your time. There’s nothing worse than rushing, it screams nervous energy. If you’re up in front of a crowd it’s for a reason. They are there to see YOU, so allow yourself to be seen. Choose your pauses wisely and let your points land rather than rushing past.
