Interior Design magazine is a quality curator of exquisite interiors and exteriors. There’s no better proof than its annual best-of list that pulls from all fields within design, from sleek retail renovations to jaw-dropping skyscrapers.

In an effort to save you from the deluge of year-end litanies, RealClearLife has picked the most remarkable of those honored by Interior Design‘s “Best of the Year Awards.” The magazine released two lists, one for projects and another for design products, but we’ve stuck with the former to give you the best eye candy.

From the first new hotel to open on Lake Como, Italy, in years to a dungeon-like museum that has “Bond villain” written all over it, 2016 was an impressive year for architecture and design—pushing boundaries and breaking from the mold. If our offerings aren’t enough, you can always check out the entire list (winners and finalists) on Interior Design here.
