Smartwatches: the most polarizing thing to happen to timekeeping since the introduction of the shot clock.
Some high-end labels are embracing the trend. Others, not so much.
And some are going so far as to install movie projectors into watches because let’s face it, that Making a Murderer binge must go on, dinner with clients be damned.
Premiered at last week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, the Cast One from China’s ASU Technology is a $300 wristwatch that can project a 60-inch picture on the nearest wall, floor, ceiling or bus seat. It can support video up to 720p resolution.
The biggest concern for the Android-friendly gizmo, which supports Airplay, DLNA and Miracast? Battery life. But as long as it lasts, ASU says the watch can project a screen up to six-and-a-half feet away.
The Cast One could be arriving in the U.S. as early as this summer, while Sony’s Ultra Short Throw Projector, another pint-sized portable projector, will be here during first half of this fiscal year.
