Pablo Escobar’s Former Home Now Luxury Beachfront Hotel

For fans of Netflix series Narcos who want to experience firsthand what it might’ve been like to be Pablo Escobar—without the prison time or being on the wrong end of a hail of bullets—there is now a dream destination.

Casa Malca is a luxury boutique hotel in the Mexican beach resort of Tulum once owned by the famed drug lord. Discovered in 2003 after sitting empty for a decade, the beachfront villa was expertly renovated and restored, and is now available for reservations.

Featuring 42 rooms and suites, Casa Malca has a pair of restaurants, Ambrosia and Filsofia; standalone Haring Bar (name-checking the famous artist); two outdoor pools and one indoor pool; a sundeck rooftop; and onsite concierge services.

All of this is the culmination of one man’s vision: Lio Malca, a New York–based art collector and dealer, who has covered Casa Malca’s grounds, rooms, and beach area with a stunning collection of artwork and antiques.
