Every luxury travel enthusiast has seen the viral videos that are shot at Princess Juliana Airport on the Caribbean island of Saint Martin.
They’re just too otherworldly to wrap your head around—unless, of course, you’re there.
But there’s a caveat emptor in there, for sure; any place where you mix hulking flying machines and crowds of onlookers, something bad is bound to happen. And unfortunately, it just did.
A woman was killed by the jet blast from a Caribbean Airlines flight taking off from the airport, according to the St. Martin News. The blast blew the woman off her feet, where she died on impact with a concrete surface, her family nearby watching on in horror.
As the publication notes, there’s a barrier that’s been put up between the runway and the beach, as well as signs indicating danger and warning tourists to steer clear. Apparently, the woman was standing too close to the fence.
