LeBron James has voiced his support for GQ Citizen of the Year and former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick. James told ESPN that he thinks the NFL is blacklisting Kaepernick.

He told ESPN’s Dave McMenamin that he is an NFL fan, but he does not represent the league or know all the rules and regulations. However, he thinks “Kap is getting a wrong doing.” LeBron said that plenty of NFL players get second and third chances and are out playing, but the league did not offer the same option to Kaepernick.

“It just feels like he’s been blackballed out of the NFL. So, I definitely do not respect that,” LeBron continued, according to GQ.

LeBron also said that the only reason Kaepernick is not on a team is because “he hook a knee.”

“That’s the only reason. I watch football every Sunday, every Thursday, every Monday night. I see all these quarterbacks — first-string, second-team, third-team quarterbacks — that play sometimes when the starter gets hurt or are starters that play. Kap is better than a lot of those guys. Let’s just be honest,” he said, according to GQ.

Kaepernick recently filed a grievance against the league, alleging that the owners have colluded to keep him from playing.
