Because every Angeleno loves to eat, even if he has to valet, we bring you Table Stakes: a series that answers man’s eternally recurring question (“Uh, what’s new?”), and recurs once every lunar cycle or so. Bon appétit.


L.A. is bordered on one side by a vast ocean. There are crabs. There are octopuses (Or is it octopi?). There are big fish, small fish, red fish, bluefish.

So let’s talk seafood.

While no city outside of Japan nails sushi like L.A., the rest of our pescatarian offerings seem intent on preparing the fruits of the mar with an East Coast bent.

Connie and Ted’s. Fishing with Dynamite. Water Grill.

They’re exceptional. But they’re not West Coast.
