You Can Now Turn Your Smartphone Into a Walkie Talkie

Sometimes your outdoor adventures take you off the grid. Great for digital detoxing. Bad for emergencies.

LINC hopes to fix that. Dubbed “The Smart Walkie Talkie,” the clip-on device offers text messaging, voice communication, SOS signals and GPS sharing without the need for a cellular network.

Obstentisibly an attachment for the Moto Z, the device also works with any Bluetooth-enabled smartphone (just not as a clip-on). The LINC has a range of five miles and offers 22 channels on FRS/GMRS, with 121 privacy codes for “minimizing unwanted chatter.” It’s also compatible with two-ways radios from different vendors, so not everyone needs a LINC to communicate.

The campaign, which is certified as “ready for production,” is now available on Indiegogo for $99.
