Meet the Magical Battery That Charges Phones in 15 Minutes

By Evan Bleier

As we’re all starting to find out, the hidden cost of our phones and laptops getting smarter, faster and more powerful is that they tend suck down juice faster than Sinatra on a Saturday night in Vegas.

The not-so-hidden effect of that phenomenon is that we’re charging our devices more than ever (looking at you, Pókemon Go).

Unless you have a Motorola Razr (in which case you likely live in Mankato, MN) it probably takes your phone — even if it’s one of the quickest — more than an hour to recharge after its battery hits zero.

In order to give you that hour back, a Chinese company has developed a graphene battery pack that it promises can recharge battery-powered laptops, phones or other devices in just 15 minutes. Designed by Dongxu Optoelectronics, the G-King has a 4,800mAh capacity, which is comparable with the charge held by some laptop batteries, and is good for up to 3,500 charge and discharge cycles.

While the company didn’t give a price for the G-King during the above demonstration of the battery’s capabilities, it’s expected to cost somewhere in the $150 range.

Dongxu Optoelectronics also declined to give a release date, but they may want to make it ASAP.

They’ve got competition.
