Rare Japanese Whiskeys, French Wines on Tap at Bonhams Hong Kong

Back in May, RealClearLife introduced you to the goodness that is Bonhams’ Hong Kong’s rare wines and spirits auction. Filled to the brim with international bottles that can either be collected or consumed—as well as a range of price points—the Bonhams auction is for the budding connoisseur or expert collector.

In the upcoming Nov. 18 sale, there are a number of rarities on the block—including some of the top Japanese whiskies available on the spirits market. Take the Yamakazi 50, the absolute finest you can get from the whiskey distiller in Osaka. The bottle doesn’t come cheap, though, with a $41,000–$49,000 pre-auction estimate. Also on the block is a series of five Hanyu Ichiro “cards,” high-end bottles that are each emblazoned with a card from a gambler’s deck. Bidders will have to play their cards right with these bottles: the lot has a pre-auction estimate of $19,000–$26,000.

On the vino front, auction-goers will find a 12-bottle lot from Burgundy, France’s Romanée-Conti 1988 (i.e. DRC’s), one of the world’s most expensive wine brands. The pre-auction estimate for the group is $150,000–$190,000. An assortment of 12 bottles of DRC from 2001 also star in the auction but come a bit cheaper at $22,000–$27,000. Another highlight is a six-bottle lot of Château Pétrus 1990, an ultra-limited-run red from Bordeaux made exclusively from Merlot grapes. The lot will run $19,000–$23,000.
