American Horror Story star Evan Peters has moved on from the small screen and into deep, troubled waters. Starring in The Pirates of Somalia as a rookie journalist looking for his big break, Peters’ character is pushed by Al Pacino’s to “go somewhere crazy” in order to be noticed by media giants. Deciding that’s Somalia, the young journalist tells his mother — portrayed by Melanie Griffith — that he’s headed to East Africa to write a book. When he arrives in the country, assisted by Academy Award nominee Barkhad Abdi, things take a quick and dramatic turn for the worse.

Based on what sounds like a truly unbelievable true story, the movie hits theaters on December 8, 2017.
