Portola Valley, about an hour south of San Francisco, is one of the country’s wealthiest ZIP codes. This is the house it deserves, a mash-up of 1970s design notes with an over-the-top aesthetic that’s purely 2015. If you doubt that this is exactly the kind of duplex residence Mike Brady would own, let’s remember: he was, in fact, an architect.
Let’s begin with the 75-foot infinity pool, around which the rest of the L-shaped, 7,000-square-foot home has been assembled. It’s bordered by an austere boardwalk — all the better for sundowners.
The residence’s true defining feature, though, is its abundance of natural light — most of it permitted within by a timber-framed glass facade that’s as much Gstaad as it is Silicon Valley. The rooms run along an east-west axis, providing views to the north that extend all the way to San Francisco on a clear day.
Pity the housekeeper tasked with keeping those windows clean of fingerprint smudges.
