There’s a few things in life that are vastly improved if they have a bit of stretch to them … we’re thinking mainly of clothes, diets and schedules. Houses, however, never even occurred to us. Until now.
Cadence Architects built the Elastica House in Bangalore, India, and it’s a timewarp to say the least. At first glance we weren’t sure if it was a 1960s penthouse or a supremely modish homage to one.
The concept is a continuous loop that rises out of the ground and expands around the entire 2,800-square-foot (round-foot?) space. No sharp corners here.
What it does have, though, are four giant bedrooms, a platformed kitchen overlooking the living room, and curves for days.
Some of the other highlights: a bed “pod” with a TV installed inside, a theater in the basement that looks like a moonscape and a grassy terrace that overlooks the ‘hood.
