Swimming with the fishes never sounded so fun.
Conrad Maldives Rangali Island just announced the construction of the world’s first undersea hotel room. The undersea part is important — there have been other rooms that look out into man-made aquariums, but the Conrad’s new dwellings will be actually submerged within the Indian Ocean.
Dubbed The Muraka (“coral” in Dhivehi), the underwater residence takes up two floors, one above the waters and one below. At five meters below sea level, you’ll find a king-size bed, bathroom, living room and 180-degree views of the surrounding marine life. (If you must go upstairs, you’ll have more bedrooms, a butler’s quarters, an infinity swimming pool and a deck that faces the sunset.)
The bi-level suite fits nine people.
This isn’t the hotel’s first foray below waters: The Conrad already boasts the world’s first undersea restaurant (Ithaa).
The Muraka will be available at the end of 2018. No prices have been set, but the above-water villas are going for $6,000+ per night during the same months, so expect to shell out a similar amount.
