To answer your first question, yes, that is a computer-generated rendering of a boat you see above. The real, functional boat it’s meant to depict is somewhere between here and Florida, making its way north via, well, waterways. Which takes a while.
It’s called The Odyssey, and next week, it’ll begin serving brunch, lunch and dinner cruises as it moseys it way along the Chicago River.
The vessel comes via Entertainment Cruises, a company that currently hosts dinners and private events on Lake Michigan aboard one of 10 yachts that vary in size and amenities. The Odyssey Chicago River, though, is their first foray into riverboating — and the first of its kind in Chicago, by our count.

What so special about a riverboat? A wraparound glass top that offers unparalleled views of the city’s architecture, for starters. Views you can enjoy from the comfort of your dinner table, without fighting the hoi polloi for an “I’m the king of the world!” spot on the bow.
The tour kicks off at their dock near NBC Tower, heading north for a loop of Goose Island before doubling back down past the Loop to the Canal Railroad Bridge, at which point you’ll turn around and head back to start. Here’s the full route — key sites included — for your perusal:
All the while, you’ll enjoy your choice of white-glove dining service: lunch cruises will run you $75 a head, with the three-course dinner service starting at $125. Cocktail cruises and a Sunday brunch are also be available at launch.
