Calling all film buffs: the Chicago International Film Fest kicks off a week from today.

And like an ageless, ridiculously good-looking Rob Lowe, it turns 50 this year.

So in celebration of the longest-running competitive film fest in North America, we’re proud to present InsideHook’s Guide to CIFF 2014, available now for your perusal.

Tickets are on sale at this very moment.

Now yes, there are a few high-profile flicks guaranteed a full theatrical release — namely Birdman, St. Vincent and Wild.

By all means, go see those.

These right here in our guide, however, are the lesser-known gems.

Nine films you’ve heard little about, but are worth your time. And we’ve got the trailers to prove it.

Inside:

And some vintage Nicholson for good measure.

So step right up for our CIFF viewing guide, and don’t forget to grab your tickets.

Because you only hit the mid-century mark once.

Nota bene: About those full theatrical releases, here’s a list of the best, care of our National edition.
