Rare First Edition of ‘Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland’ Could Fetch $3 Million

Christie’s is set to auction off an extremely rare first edition of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland on June 16 in New York. The original 1865 edition will be featured in its own standalone auction immediately following Christie’s “Books and Manuscripts” sale, whose highlight will be an influential Beat Era letter from Neal Cassady to Jack Kerouac. Pre-auction estimates put the Wonderland first edition at $2 million to $3 million. An original albumen print taken by Lewis Carroll of Alexandra Rhoda (Xie) Kitchin at age nine. She was the second owner of this copy of the 1865 edition of ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ and inherited the book from her father, George W. Kitchin, its original owner.
