Emile Leray was on a road trip in Morocco when his car hit a rock, destroying his front axel. He was in the middle of the desert, about 20 miles from the nearest village, and had a limited food supply.

Facing an uncertain future, Leray took matters into his own hands and engineered a motorbike out of his now-broken-down car. He then trained himself to “master” the machine he created.

After 12 days and 11 nights in the desert, he went back to civilization on the bike, where he was fined 450 euros because the bike did not meet specific standards.
