The mountain Volkswagen must climb to win back consumer trust is a high one.

But this oughta help: Camper, a long-range, all-electric camping mobile for the whole fam-damn-ily expected to be formally introduced at Head of Passenger Cars Herbert Diess’s January 5th keynote.

The bubble-like Camper is something like the Vanagon the Jetsons would’ve taken to Jellystone, with retro colors and design flourishes that recall the automaker’s flower-petals and free-lovin’ glory days. They kept the front short, the rear overhang intact and the D-overhang in the center to maintain VW’s signature boxy profile, but the rest of the frame is an elliptical, futuristic departure from the house style.

The battery will reportedly have a mileage of 250-310 miles, which is more than any other e-vehicle on U.S. roads bar Tesla.

It’s set to debut at CES in January, with plans to hit U.S. roads in 2017.
