This Ferrari FXX Evoluzione was not developed for, or ever meant to be driven on, the street.

But as its name would suggest, the nearly 250-MPH monster evolved — with a little bit of help.

Originally built exclusively for track driving as part of an exclusive R&D program, this 2008 Evoluzione is one of just 29 FXX cars Ferrari produced, and the only street-legal model. This particular unit — which only has 1,300 miles on its odometer — was able to wheel itself out of the track-only evolutionary soup after its owner sent the car back to Ferrari and had its suspension modified and lights, turn signals, a handbrake and other safety features added.

However, the owner didn’t make any changes to the supercar’s 6.3-liter naturally-aspirated V12, or six-speed sequential racing transmission, two tasty pieces that get it to do 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. Thankfully for the life expectancy of whoever’s driving it, all that high-powered motion is still slowed down by the Evoluzione’s original carbon ceramic brakes and the two-door coupe’s black interior also remains largely untouched.

Sure, the asking price is around $12.5 million, but at least the road safety certificates come free.
