If you look up “bespoke” in the dictionary, you’ll see the term is defined by just three words: “made to order.”

In at least one industry, though, that definition could be further shortened to only two: Rolls and Royce.

The British marque’s Bespoke Department has churned out an ever-increasing number of models since its inception 113 years ago, and last year it was busier than ever producing custom based on the Phantom, Ghost and Dawn. To give the auto artisans down at the Bespoke Department a pat on their collective back, Rolls-Royce just released a set of photos commemorating all the BD’s hard work in 2016.

“Rolls-Royce will never stray from this path, ensuring the precious relationship between patron, house and artisan is never derogated by proliferation,” said Rolls-Royce chief executive Torsten Müller-Ötvös. “This unique approach is beautifully expressed in just a small collection of some of the remarkable commissions executed at our centre of global excellence in 2016.”
