James Bonds’ AMC Hornet will be at the Auctions America event in Auburn, Indiana, at the end of August.
The red 1974 hatchback is the very one seen in “The Man with the Golden Gun.” Its famous for its pulling off a barrel roll jump from one end of a broken wood bridge across a river to the other.
The stunt was created by Jay Milligan, writes Fox News. He was performing it in his traveling stunt show and he approached the Bond producers to see if they would include it in the movie. They decided they would, so they bought the rights and flew Milligan to Thailand to recreate it on location.
As it was one of the first stunts to be modeled on a computer, Calspan Corporation handled the engineering and research. The car was modeled with a new suspension and central driving position to help balance the weight distribution. This way, the shot could be filmed in one take and the car would be unscathed.
The car was owned by Milligan until his death earlier this year, and is being sold by his estate. The six-cylinder engine still runs.
Auctions America estimates that it will go for $250,000 to $350,000. The going price for a regular 1974 Hornet hatch is around $1,500.
