In 1963, Jaguar Lightweight E-Type chassis number S850667 won the Australian GT Championship race while setting a lap record of 51.8 seconds.

In 2017, that same E-Type set records again, this time in the good ol’ US of A.

The tenth of 12 original Lightweight E-Types, no. S850667 is still in the championship shape. This whip has never been disassembled or rebuilt since its legendary run in ’63.

That means the car’s custom competition upgrades — an alloy six-cylinder engine mated to a close-ratio four-speed transmission, a Lucas fuel injection system and a modified frame with space for a special suspension — are all intact and running like clockwork.

With just three owners and under 4,000 miles on its odometer, this Jaguar E-Type is rare, in stellar condition and has a championship pedigree, all of which are reasons it sold for $7.37 million at a Bonhams auction in Arizona and became the most expensive E-Type ever sold in the process.

Helluva time capsule the owner’s got there.
