Peace out, Ferrari. Kick rocks, McLaren.

Because the new Ford GT is coming to shake you down, empty the coins out of your pockets, buy a ham sandwich and a coke with those coins, and then devour it all in front of you with a self-satisfied grin on its face.

Ford today confirmed that the twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 this maniac will be packing can churn out 647 horsepower at 6,250 rpm and 550 pound-feet of torque at 5,900 rpm. If you don’t speak car, just know that its top speed of 216 mph will blow your hair straight back to 1999.

As you might suspect, that speed comes at a major cost. The EPA is completely terrible. Read: 11 mpg in the city, 18 on the highway and 14 combined. That’s just a shave better than most 2WD conversion cargo vans get.

In testing, Ford put the GT up against a McLaren 675LT and a Ferrari 458 Speciale at Canada’s Calabogie Motorsports Park. Yes, it drew blood. With the same drivers for each, the GT clocked 2:09.8 in 3.1 miles, while the McLaren came in at 2:10.8 and the Ferrari at 2:12.9.

It wasn’t an independent test, but it’s surely enough to solidify the GT’s seat at the adult’s table.

Ford will produce about 250 a year, with the first productions having already been delivered. Catch ‘em while you can.
