Race car driver and automotive visionary Carroll Shelby was the brains behind some of America’s greatest rides—and RM Sotheby’s will be presenting his creative peak at its upcoming sale in Monterey, California. The first-ever Shelby Cobra “CSX 2000,” owned for its lifetime by the designer himself, is headed to the block on August 19-20. First sold in 1962, the sports car had a Ford V8 engine and was meant to “put the Corvettes in the weeds.”
“When it comes to American sports cars, CSX 2000 is without peers,” declares Shelby Myers, car specialist at RM Sotheby’s, in a press release, also noting that “its historical significance and impact on the global sports car scene cannot be overstated” and it “revolutionized not only American racing, but the greater auto industry as a whole.”
