Unless you stay up watching foreign automotive programming on The Ocho every night, you probably don’t know which automaker broke Nordschleife speed records in 2004 and 2006.

If you do: get out more.

For everyone else: the answer is Donkervoort.

The Dutch carmaker is hoping to conquer the track in Nürburgring once again, with its new D8 GTO-RS, set to be released at the end of the summer.

Building off what its predecessor was able to accomplish in ‘04 and ‘06, the revamped D8 GTO-RS is completely made-to-measure with an aerodynamic body, redeveloped braking system and carbon-fiber tunnel section.

Although Donkervoort hasn’t announced specs on just what the car’s Bosch-modified Audi 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine can accomplish, older GTO models boasted up to 380 HP and 0-60 times of 2.8 seconds, and the “lap time-enhancing features” of this model should lead to it outpacing those numbers.  

Described as the “lightest and fastest GTO ever built,” the D8 GTO-RS is designed for the track but is also completely street legal and compliant with EU6 emissions standards.

Donkervoort plans to produce 40 of the limited-edition roadsters, and pricing starts right around $175k. If you’re interested, get moving, because 21 of ‘em are already spoken for.
