James Bond’s favorite car will be running out of gas.
Aston Martin’s first all-electric car will enter production in 2019, the company confirmed.
The model, Rapide, spearheads the company’s second century plan set by president and CEO, Dr. Andy Palmer, for development of low- and zero-emission vehicles.
The sports automobile will have four doors and will be powered by an all-electric powertrain replacing the six-liter V12 engine. Electric motors have instantaneous delivery characteristics, which should translate into a unique driving experience never before felt in an Aston Martin.
Williams Advanced Engineering, a company based in Grove, Oxfordshire, worked on the original concept with Aston Martin, and the two companies will continue to collaborate. Williams Advanced Engineering will help Aston Martin with engineering integration.
Palmer said that he hopes the values of style and performance don’t merely “co-exist alongside a new zero-emission powertrain, but are enhanced by it.”
