Good News: The Land Rover Defender Is Arriving a Year Early

The forthcoming 2019 Land Rover Defender already topped our list of rides worth waiting for.

And we didn’t even know that much about it. Eccentric billionaire something, modern-yet-retro something.

But now according to Gear Patrol, the new Defender will be making its debut a year ahead of schedule. Including stateside.

As told by Jaguar Land Rover design chief Gerry McGovern, the Defender crew “will include a family of vehicles to be sold in all global markets. It will come in several body styles and it will be instantly recognizable as a Defender, but without appearing retro.”

Translation: the Land Rover will be built off of the body of the Range Rover rather than using the body-on-frame architecture we’d become accustomed to meet global safety and emissions standards.

There are plans in the works for a two-door soft top and a four-door wagon with both gas and diesel engines.

No word yet on what’s going where, butour eye is now firmly fixed on the 2018 calendar.
