Not every concept makes it through the design stage. In fact, very few do.

But you can commence counting your lucky stars on this one, because Aston Martin and Triton Submarines’ upcoming submersible (codename: Project Neptune) is moving into production, according to a press release from the latter

The designers have tweaked the concept’s hydronamic efficiency and power (the model will have a sprint speed over 5 knots) to their satisfaction, and plan to unveil a working model by the end of 2018.

Looks like you’re gonna need a bigger Xmas tree this year.

Calling all billionaire playboy spies, super villains and — snore — Silicon Valley. Aston Martin, the luxury British automaker perhaps best known for its ties to the Bond franchise, is building its first submarine.

Appropriately dubbed Project Neptune, the sub has been designed in partnership with Triton Submarines and based off its 1650/3 LP platform. And, to literally no one’s surprise, the joy ride will run the $4 million mark and be strictly limited-edition.

“Project Neptune is defined by its sleek, elegant exterior,” said Marek Reichman, and Chief Creative Officer. “We have used forms and proportions that express the same devotion to design, engineering and beauty that shape our cars.”

Creative dribble aside, Project Neptune will certainly live up to Aston’s performance standards. The sub is able to descend down 1,650 feet and run for up to 12 hours.

While Bloomberg reports it’ll be available as early as next year,  it’s just a concept at the moment. Either way, it’s got this Bond fan wondering if it’ll make an appearance in Daniel Craig’s last Bond film.
