Gianni Versace was a fashion king—but with his property portfolio, he was also a real estate czar. In 1995, Versace purchased a 35-foot-wide townhouse in Manhattan’s Upper East Side, on 64th Street off of Fifth Ave, for $7.5 million. Though the building has been renovated twice since the purchase, much of the extravagant elements remain, which is enough to give it that Versace-esque feel. The ornate chandeliers, intricately-designed marble floors, and gilded moulding are all remnants of the fashion superstar.
Following Versace’s death in 1997, the property, among others, was sold for $30 million to hedge fund manager Thomas Sandell. These days, the 14,000-square-foot home, now decorated in the Italian Baroque style, is available as a rental for $100,000 per month. The townhouse has six bedrooms and six-and-a-half baths, with an elevator connecting all six floors. Additional amenities include a jacuzzi; balcony; fireplace; media room, featuring a skylight with skyline views; a tree-lined rooftop garden; and secluded courtyard garden.
