We Need to Talk About Your Walls

Upgrade your home in a flash

  • 31 March 2015

We’ve all been to that guy’s house.

Great address. Great view. Stone’s throw from the best dive bar in the city. (Looking at you, 500 Club.)

But his walls eerily naked, stuck in some post-college haze of weathered movie posters, Ikea tapestries and an aluminum bar sign he once promoted from ... uh ... not the 500 Club.

The fix? Mix equal parts cityscape photographer Vincent Laforet and upstart framing concern Mountary. Wait. Profit.

Laforet charters helicopters to get up to 7,500 feet above some of the most spectacular urban landscapes on Earth.

With top gear, he shoots cities like San Francisco, New York and Las Vegas from dizzying heights — sometimes literally hanging out of the chopper.

Above are a couple of our favorites, but check out his site for more options, and then drop him a line via the contact form for ordering info.

As for the framing? If you've ever ordered a frame for an irregularly sized piece, you know it's a hassle: both expensive and a time-suck. Mountary puts the whole ordering system online. It's fast, easy and refreshingly fair-priced.

Send the measurements off to Mountary, and they’ll send back a custom frame.

Or opt for the white-glove service (available in SF, Palo Alto and Mountain View), which involves a framing maven who makes house calls and shepherds the whole ordeal from start-to-finish on your behalf.

Problem solved.

Nota bene: Laforet has also collected his aerial photography in a gorgeous hardcover called AIR, which you can preorder right here.
