The beauty of Long Island is well-known, but on the gridlock-choked highway you'll see little more than tailpipes, exhaust, and the dangling taunts of TruckNutz.
[callout] A family-friendly, backroads-only bike ride ... [/callout]
A family-friendly, backroads-only bike ride through Long Island's pastoral hamlets and much-cleaner-than-Coney beaches, Ride to Montauk runs from Manhattan's streets to the Montauk Lighthouse.
You can sign up and do the entire 152-mile ride, or choose to do as little as a 30-mile segment — for that length, you start closer to Montauk, and you + bike transpo's provided to the starting line the morning of the ride.
[callout] ... with rest stops, massages, and free beer. [/callout]
The finish-line party features hot shower trucks, free massages, an all-you-can-eat meal, and free beer from Blue Point Brewery. Transportation is available back to the city both Saturday and Sunday on your choice of train, van, or charter bus.
Getting out of bed on Sunday morning, however, is on you.
