Italy continues to put its own unique spin on the real-estate market. Last year, the Sardinian town of Ollolai was selling houses for $1 a pop in an effort to restore and populate hundreds of abandoned homes. Newly-minted owners had to agree to refurbish their homes to the tune of $25K over three years.
This time around, looking to best a slow market on the mainland, a British man is raffling off his cottage in the foothills of the Abruzzo region’s Gran Sasso National Park. The home isn’t derelict (in fact, it looks like it’s enjoyed years of TLC), and could be yours for just $66.
We’re not sure where the man behind this campaign is headed once he sells this house, but hopefully it’s somewhere with a well-paid marketing position. Check out the video he commissioned to show off the house — it’s gorgeous. There’s an entire website dedicated to the cause (plus an Instagram), where the stipulations for the contest are explicitly clear. Only 6,000 raffle tickets will be sold (if that number isn’t reached, the contest will end in September regardless), the drawing is in October and there are second- and third-place prizes: $11K+ and a hamper of local wine, respectively.
If you’re lucky enough to win the grand prize, be sure to explore the alpine plains of Gran Sasso, take day trips to Pescara along the Adriatic, ramble through Roman ruins and gorge yourself on truffles, saffron, pasta and wine.
