So what do you have planned for the second half of the summer?
Clear your schedule — at least for two weeks — so you can take advantage of a smorgasbord of air travel from Widerøe (SAS’s low-cost subsidiary). For about $500, you can travel as much as you like between Norwegian cities — and you can begin and end your trip in one of Widerøe’s international destinations. There aren’t a ton of choices, but that asterisk means you can start or finish in Copenhagen, Aberdeen or Gothenberg, all of which are worth a stop, especially if you’re using Aberdeen as a jumping-off point for the Scottish islands.
So what to do with your pass? Norway is beautiful. We’d start in Oslo: the Munch Museum is top rate. From there, we’d head south to Sandefjord, then west to Bergen, which is beautiful, and then start hop-skipping our way north: Bergen to Bodø, Bodø to Tromso, Tromso to the Arctic, perhaps Båtsfjord, “Norway’s largest fishing village.”
We don’t care how you justify it to your boss. Maybe you work in oil. Maybe you work in crime fiction. Maybe you work in intriguing summer music festivals. But grab the credit card and book now. Summer will be here before you know it, and it goes fast.
