Over the course of three days, metalheads who make the trek to the annual Wacken Open Air Festival in the small town of Wacken, Germany consume an average of 400,000 liters of beer.

This year, to make sure supply meets demand, Wacken’s organizers are installing a four-mile pipeline that will deliver beer directly to the concession stands on the festival grounds and allow vendors to pour six beers per second.

The new system — which also includes pipes for power, fiber optic cable, sewage and drinking water — will eliminate wear and tear from delivery trucks and cut down on wait times at the bar.

And don’t worry about the pipes getting crossed as the festival promises that they will “control the hygiene of the tubes all the time.”

How unmetal.
