A few months ago, we preached the gospel of bison wool, a criminally under-utilized material when it comes to staying dry and warm when the mercury drops. It's a favorite of outdoor apparel company United by Blue, who have even gone so far as to create a 190gsm bison-fill insulation that they're using as a down substitute throughout their outerwear collection this season.
And if you're in the market for a puffy vest, good news: today, United by Blue has dropped the price of their bison-fill puffer vest to just $100, which is, by any measure, a serious f*cking bargain (it retails for $188). It's got a bit of a slimmer profile than the ubiquitous North Face Nupse (a good thing), as well as a waterproof shell, fleece-lined pockets and an interior phone pocket. We're also big fans of the drawstrings at the hem, which can function a bit like a powder skirt if you're on the slopes or, like, snowball-fighting really aggressively.
The vest is available in two colors, a hunting-friendly olive with orange trim or black with gray trim.
