Companies like the North Face, Patagonia and Columbia all make superb rain gear, but not everyone can show up to the office in fluorescent Gore-Tex bedecked in zippered pockets and cinch cords. That doesn’t mean you can’t have sufficient storm protection.
For a combination of waterproofing and classic styling, a gent would do well to check out Uniqlo’s Blocktech line, a collection of raincoats all of which are currently under $100 $80. [Ed. note: Prices dropped again.] That means even if your city’s rainy season is short, you can afford to keep one in your arsenal
It should be noted that some of these coats are always under a Franklin, but three of the best are newly discounted by $30 to $50 to $70. You’ll find those superlative styles below, all distinct enough that no matter whether you prefer a hood or not, a fishtail or not, you’ll be able to find something to keep you dry and office appropriate.
Blocktech Convertible Collar Coat
In the vein of a trench coat but lighter and more breathable, with sturdy buttons and extra waterproofing along the seams. Available in black, navy, gray and brown.
U Blocktech Coat
A minimalist design created in Uniqlo’s Paris atelier, available in black, gray and brown. Doesn’t skimp on protective elements with 3-layer cotton construction and adjustable hood.
Blocktech Fishtail Parka
Don’t let the “parka” signifier fool you, this is no winter coat and you’ll need to layer on colder days. But with the large hood, fishtail hem and adjustable sleeves it’s also the toughest of the bunch.
