“Instead of buying multiple watches, invest in one great watch.” That’s a nice sentiment, but probably coined by someone who’s never worn a watch on a daily basis. Unless you’re a Jack Donaghy type donning a tuxedo every night, every watch collection should include a timepiece that fulfills two simple requirements: A) it tells time and B) you won’t have an existential crisis should the lens crack.
In that regard, there's nary a better bang-for-your-buck timepiece than Timex’s 40mm Expedition Scout, 11 versions of which are on sale on Amazon for $40 or less, down from an original $57.
That’s frankly an absurd price point, but one that’ll allow you to nab a classic black dial and one in cream. But because Timex is no slouch, having been in the timekeeping business since 1854, the Expedition Scout also packs in useful features like an Indiglo light-up dial with 24-hour markings, date window, luminant hands and 50m of water resistance.
Obviously the timepiece is more important than the strap, but even in that department, this model offers up nylon, leather and synthetic leather in a variety of colors. Just because it’s $40 doesn’t mean you can’t color coordinate.
