This Vintage Gran Turismo Racer Was Built in … 2016?

The Frigerio brothers turn back the clock on a new coupe

Note to self: start dreaming like the Frigerio brothers.

Dubbed an “Italian dream become real” by coupe craftsmen Leonardo and Vittorio Frigerio, the Effeffe Berlinetta looks like it stepped straight out of a ‘50s Gran Turismo casting call.

It didn’t. In fact, it was built by hand in Verano Brianza just this year.

The brothers have been working on the vintage-looking, aluminum-bodied Berlinetta for a number of years, but it was officially unveiled at the Top Marques Monaco earlier this month and the country’s Prince Albert spent a good deal of time looking under the hood of the five-speed two-seater.

He was checking out its Alfa Romeo Twin Cam four-cylinder: a two-liter that can produce 180 HP at 6,500 RPM.

Those power figures are purposefully low, as the 1,742-pound car was built with the words of Lotus Cars founder Colin Chapman in mind. “If you add HP, you go stronger straight,” Chapman said. “If you add lightness, you go stronger everywhere.”

To make the Berlinetta handsomer, the brothers have outfitted the interior in Matteograssi leather, installed a Nardi steering wheel and are willing to customize it further upon request.

The asking price is close to $340,000, but it does include a matching luggage set and golf bag.

God bless the kid at your country club who gets to valet it.
