The Lamborghini Spectro Is the Great White of Autonomous Racing

But why even make a car this cool if nobody gets to drive it?

Rumor has it, the Roborace series planned to get underway in tandem with the Formula E Championship might not even happen at all. If it does, it could inaugurate a new Minority Report-style sport ushering in a slew of self-driving makes. It could also sort of roll around a track in front of empty stands.

But we can assure you that we’d be watching if this Lamborghini Spectro were on the roster.

From designer Matteo Gentile comes an innovative vision of what an autonomous racer might look like should Lambo ever decide to throw their cappello in the ring. And it’s magnificent.

Given that it’s driverless, it really cuts out a lot of weight, scrapping, you know, the cockpit. And the human that typically occupies it. As a result, the Spectro’s top is chopped flat for maximum aerodynamics, with an air-channeling open front and Le Mans-inspired fin to assist.

So someone send a carrier pigeon, shoot a flair — whatever it takes — to get the head honchos at Lamborghini to take note of this design. Because, forget Apple, this A.I. scene just got pretty badass.
