We’re all for roughing it.

But after a day up to your waders in icy river water or belly down in the dirt, a man deserves to kick his boots up next to a roaring fire. And maybe even nosh on three courses of Michelin-star grub.

So given that hunting season is in full swing in all parts American, we rounded up six of the cushiest destinations for casting lines and tracking white-tails. Ones that even your non-flannel-donning, anti-barrel-cleaning company might enjoy.

Painter’s Lodge
Campbell River, B.C.

Painter’s Lodge, in a word: pristine. The full-service resort offers Kodak-worthy views of the sea, open sky and mountains, and a pool, hot tub and spa. A hub for B.C. salmon sportfishing, expert guides offers excursions for novices and seasoned anglers alike. Come for the sport, stay for the scenery, which includes bear, bald eagle and orca sightings.

Three Forks Ranch
Colorado-Wyoming Border

Where recreation and relaxation collide. If it’s a trophy catch you’re after, Three Forks is tough to beat. Equipped with a 6,000-square-foot spa and a team of world-class chefs, the Ranch has an exclusive hold on some 50,000 acres for elk, mule deer and pronghorn seekers, along with 16 miles of trout-laden streams in close proximity.

Cabin Bluff
Cumberland River, GA

Lighter on the luxury but steeped even deeper in the wilderness, lesser-known Cabin Bluff is the seasoned outdoorsman’s haven. Just 20 private rooms means less frenzy and more plentifully populated fields of quail, wild turkey, deer and boar. For those without shooting on the agenda, there’s also a PGA-approved golf course, kayaking and wellness options on offer.

Paws Up Resort
Greenough, MO

Call it glamping if you must, but don’t call it roughing it: rooms start at $1,000+ a night. Situated on 37,000 acres of secluded land, Paws Up serves up a fly-fishing valhalla by day and suitably high thread counts by night.

Primland
Meadows of Dan, VA

Try everything or do nothing. Primland has it all, including golf, fishing, horseback riding, sporting clays, mountain biking, tennis, some fringe offerings like tree climbing and star gazing, a spa, and a wild game paradise crawling with whitetail deer by fall and wild turkeys come spring [exhales].

Nimmo Bay
Great Bear Rainforest, B.C.

We saved the best for last. Aside from being one of the most breathtaking resorts you’ll find in maple leaf country, Nimmo Bay offers not just fly fishing, but heli fly fishing. That means weather permitting, you’re hopping a chopper to the stream less traveled with whale watching on the way and gourmet dining waiting for you back at the lodge.
