The Retractable-Roofed ‘Tent House’ Is Basically a 3BR Convertible

G'head and let the breeze in. Feels good, doesn't it?

You may be thinking the obvious:

Why the hell would I would ever need a tent over my house?

A tent, after all, is an inferior — if infinitely more portable, lightweight and packable — standin for … a house. But this design is more intelligent than meets the eye. Made by Australia’s Spark Architects, the versatile design transitions easily from summer to winter for maximum efficiency.

Nestled 20 minutes from Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, the space includes three bedrooms, living room, dining room and kitchen, with a flowing open-floor layout. But the architect’s true innovation shines in the sliding walls and roof panels, which make it simple to insulate the house from the elements in the winter — or let the sun shine in during warmer months.

It’s a superb way to get a little closer to nature … without letting it get too close to you.
