Used to be that if you wanted to use a neighbor’s swimming pool, you didn’t ask. You just snuck through the gate and annexed the thing, then ran like hell when its owner inevitably trotted out in robe and slippers with a shotgun at his hip.
But times have changed. Now you can pay that miserly neighbor an hourly rate via the internet and plunge away in peace.
Swimply is a new way to either rent or rent out a pool for the day. The “poolsharing” service connects owners of private swimming pools with interested lappers in their area, and, well, you know the rest.
“We want mini-escapes to be as ordinary as visiting a cafe or a good nap,” says the Swimply site. “Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing (even if it’s nothing), it should only take a moment from the time you want to be somewhere better, till the time you actually are.”
A quick search for pools in Brooklyn on Wednesday, when the thermometer hits the mid-90s, turned up “Brooklyn Paradise,” a three-year-old in-ground heated pool with diving board, along with two hammocks and a gazebo … for $75/hour.
Or you could just for permission. Or, you know, forgiveness.
